    • Montefalco has a rich and long history, inhabited since ancient times but with a very distinct Medieval feel to it these days. It certainly deserves its place among the ‘borghi piu belli d’Italia‘. Frequently referred to as ‘the balcony of Umbria’ or ‘railings of Umbria’ (ringhiera dell’ Umbria) due to its lofty position above the surrounding countryside (it sits 473 metres above sea level), it is encircled by vineyards, olive groves and fields. On a clear day, it’s possible to enjoy incredible 360 degree views that stretch all the way from Perugia to Spoleto overlooking the plains of the Topino and Clitunno rivers.
    • We absolutely love Montefalco. Montefalco is a picture-postcard town characterised by a warren of narrow, cobbled streets within ancient walls. It’s hard to get lost though – the town is helpfully set in the shape of a starfish with five main gates that provide access to five main roads that all lead uphill to the central five-sided piazza – the Piazza del Comune.
    • The territory of Montefalco is just like that, a territory of agriculture and large vineyards that surround the medieval upper town, where there are several ancient wine bars.
    • Wine
      • Sagrantino di Montefalco wine dates back to Roman times and here you can taste it at its best, thanks to years and years of experience by local wineries.
      • In Montefalco, discover Sagrantino wine :a visit to a hundred-year-old winery, wine tasting and olive oil tasting.
    • Olive Oil taste
    • Market
      • Market in on Monday: Montefalco, largo Santa Chiara and largo Buozzi
  • La Rocca Guest House and Spa MONTEFALCO

    • Make 11am tour at Fattoria Calcabrina. Hopefully includes lunch
    • Return to trail 1.5 miles, finish last 3miles to Bevagna
  • Things about Bevagna:

Between Assisi and Spoleto, in the center of the Umbrian Valley, the village is a precious treasure chest where time slows down. Typical medieval village, Bevagna offers suggestions and atmospheres in which you can feel the protagonist and not just the spectator, between art and history. Here you are in a relaxing atmosphere where you can taste traditional Umbrian dishes and Sagrantino di Montefalco with all its fragrant notes.

Also worthy of note is the Baroque church of the monastery of Santa Margherita and the church of San Filippo (1725). The Church of San Francesco (late 13th century) is located at the town’s highest point. Next to the altar is the stone on which St. Francis leaned as he preached to the birds at Pian d’Arca.
